LGBTQ Therapy in Omaha, Nebraska
LGBTQ Therapy — Affirming Therapy. You Don’t Have to Explain.
LGBTQ therapy services in Omaha — affirming talk therapy for queer adults and teens. Coming-out, identity, relationships, minority stress — no label required.
- A clinician who doesn’t treat your identity as the diagnosis
- Affirming work for coming-out, gender exploration, relationships
- Minority stress work that names it without making it the whole frame
- Family-acceptance work that respects your pace and safety
- A space where being queer isn’t the question being treated
The goal isn’t to be fixed. It’s to finally become who you already are.
WHO COMES TO LGBTQ+ THERAPY?
Most LGBTQ+ adults come for the same reasons everyone else does — with the identity context affirmed.
LGBTQ+ therapy — also called LGBTQ counseling, queer therapy, LGBTQ-affirming therapy, gender-affirming therapy, gay therapy, lesbian therapy, or trans therapy — is affirming talk therapy from a queer counselor or LGBTQ therapist Omaha clients can trust. LGBTQ counseling Omaha provides the work without making identity the focus unless that’s what you came for.
Wanting therapy without educating the clinician
Session one without explaining what queer means. Without educating about pronouns. Without justifying your relationship structure. Affirming baseline; the work is what you came for.
Coming-out work at your pace and safety
At any age, in any context. Paced at the safety you’re in — not at a timeline anyone pushes on you. Narrative therapy plus IFS hold the work.
Gender-identity exploration without certainty first
You don’t have to land somewhere before you start. Exploration is allowed. Affirming work paired with the pathway to gender-affirming care when desired.
Minority stress shaping your week
The chronic stress of navigating a non-affirming environment. Real, measurable, not in your head. We name it without making it the whole frame.
Family-acceptance work where the system is part of it
Your family of origin. Your in-laws. Your kids. Affirming family-systems work for households navigating an LGBTQ+ member’s identity.
WHAT WE WORK ON
LGBTQ+ therapy covers what therapy covers — affirmed.
LGBTQ+ therapy at Thrivion addresses coming-out work, gender-identity exploration (including gender-affirming therapy as a pathway), minority stress and its effects, family-acceptance work, queer-specific relationship work, internalized stigma, and the full range of clinical presentations LGBTQ+ adults bring — affirmed throughout.
Coming Out
At any age, in any context. Paced at your safety. We don’t push timelines.
Gender Identity Exploration
Including pathway to gender-affirming care when desired. No certainty required first; exploration is allowed.
Minority Stress
Naming the chronic stress of navigating a non-affirming environment without making it the whole frame.
Family Acceptance
Family-systems work for households navigating an LGBTQ+ member’s identity. Affirming throughout.
Queer Relationships
Couples, throuple, polyamorous, ace, and other queer-specific relationship configurations and dynamics.
Internalized Stigma
When the cultural messages have become internal voices. IFS and CBT work on the internalized layer.
You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve care. You don’t need a label to deserve growth.
LGBTQ+ therapy at Thrivion is affirming as a baseline. We don’t treat identity as pathology. We don’t require you to come out, transition, or perform any specific identity expression as a condition of care. We work the issues you bring — whether that’s coming-out work, relationship work, anxiety, depression, family stress, or identity exploration — from an affirming clinical frame.
We coordinate with gender-affirming medical providers when relevant. Thrivion offers evidence-based LGBTQ+ therapy in Omaha. Our evidence-based approach doesn’t change for queer clients — the affirmation is baseline, the work is real.

INSURANCE & COST
In-network — and honest about what therapy costs.
What’s between you and feeling better shouldn’t be a fee schedule. We’re in-network with the major Nebraska plans, including Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, plus Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, and Medicaid. For plans we don’t panel directly, we bill out-of-network benefits on your behalf.
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Nebraska Total Care
Molina Healthcare
In-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Nebraska Total Care, Molina, and Medicaid — additional plans accepted.
$0–$50 typical
Most in-network clients pay a copay between $0 and $50 per session. Intake verifies your exact cost before your first session — no surprises after.
Sliding-scale available
For clients without insurance or with high deductibles, a limited sliding-scale rate is available. Ask intake when you call — we figure it out together, no judgment.
No package upgrades
We don’t sell session packages, premium tiers, or wellness add-ons. The fee is the fee. When the work is done, the work is done.
YOUR CLINICAL TEAM
A coordinated team of master’s-level clinicians.
Five master’s-level clinicians, with affirming training. Intake matches you to the clinician whose work fits your specific shape — coming-out work looks different from gender exploration, which looks different from queer relational work.
Master’s-level LIMHP and LMHP clinicians, family-systems lens, and a coordinated team — not a roster of independent contractors. Intake matches you to the clinician whose training fits what you’re working on. When needs shift, the team coordinates the hand-off internally so you’re not starting over with a stranger.

What clients say.
I didn’t spend session one explaining what queer means. That alone was the difference.
— A Thrivion client
My clinician affirmed without making my identity the whole frame. I came for anxiety, and we worked anxiety.
— A Thrivion client
Gender exploration work without certainty required first — that was the gift. I got to actually explore.

FAQ
A few things LGBTQ+ adults ask before starting therapy.
Do I have to come out at session one?
No. You don’t have to come out to your therapist if you’re not ready, and you don’t have to have your identity figured out before starting therapy. Exploration is allowed.
Do you do gender-affirming therapy?
Yes. We do affirming therapy for gender exploration and the pathway to gender-affirming care. We coordinate with gender-affirming medical providers when desired. Letters for medical providers are within our scope.
Are your clinicians LGBTQ+ themselves?
Some of our clinicians are LGBTQ+; some are affirming allies. Intake matches you to the clinician whose fit feels right for you. You can ask intake about specifics.
How long does LGBTQ+ therapy take?
Same as any other therapy — depends on what you’re working on. Coming-out work and identity exploration may run 4–9 months. Trauma or long-arc patterns run longer.
Will my insurance cover LGBTQ+ therapy?
Yes. We’re in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare, and Medicaid. Most clients pay $0–$50 per session.
Can I do online LGBTQ+ therapy?
Yes. Online therapy via telehealth is available for LGBTQ+ clients across Nebraska, including rural areas where in-person affirming options are limited.
