- Real change at the family-system level, not just the symptom
- A space your kid actually wants to come back to
The goal isn’t to be fixed. It’s to finally become who you already are.
DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS?
Most parents come because they’ve tried everything else.
Child therapy — also called child counseling, children’s therapy, kids therapy, children’s counseling, or pediatric therapy — rarely starts with a clear diagnosis. It starts with patterns parents recognize. Child therapy Omaha, school-age therapy, elementary child therapy, or play therapy searches by parents looking for a child therapist or child counselor. Below are starting points parents bring us.
Big feelings your kid can’t put words to
Tantrums after school. Tears at bedtime. Frustration that explodes when you ask one wrong thing. Play therapy gives kids the language they don’t have yet; parent coaching gives you tools for the in-between moments.
School mornings or transitions that have become wars
The drop-off. The pickup. The shift from screen to dinner. The moments of transition where the regulation breaks. CBT adapted for kids plus parent coaching addresses both layers.
Behavior that’s changed since a family transition
A move. A divorce. A new sibling. A loss. The kid’s behavior is telling you about the change. Family-systems lens plus play therapy treats the source, not just the symptom.
Anxiety showing up in the body
Stomach aches before school. Headaches before sleepovers. The body speaking for a kid who can’t name the worry. Play therapy plus somatic awareness adapted for kids treats both.
Sleep, appetite, or mood shifts you can’t place
Something is off. You can’t pin it. Multi-modal assessment plus play therapy reveals what’s actually moving in your kid — before the patterns harden.
WHAT WE WORK ON
Kids don’t struggle in just one shape.
Child therapy at Thrivion addresses anxiety in children, school difficulties (refusal, social, academic), behavioral challenges (defiance, dysregulation), family-transition adjustment (divorce, loss, move), emotional dysregulation, and social difficulties (peer relationships, friendships).
Anxiety in Children
School anxiety, separation, social, generalized worry. Play therapy plus CBT adapted for kids.
School Difficulties
Refusal, social, academic, behavioral. Coordination with schools when families want it.
Behavioral Challenges
Defiance, dysregulation, meltdowns. Treated as communication, with parent coaching as the foundation.
Family Transition Adjustment
Divorce, loss, move, blending, new sibling. Helping kids process changes they didn’t choose.
Emotional Dysregulation
Big feelings without big words yet. DBT-informed work adapted for kids plus parent tools.
Social Difficulties
Friendship struggles, peer conflict, social skills development. Play-based and skill-building work.
You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve care. You don’t need a label to deserve growth.
Child therapy at Thrivion combines play therapy (the developmentally-appropriate way kids do their work), CBT adapted for elementary-age kids, family-systems work that addresses the patterns at home, and parent coaching that gives you tools too. Kids don’t heal in isolation — the family system is part of the work, not separate from it.
Sessions typically include the kid alone, parent-and-kid together when useful, and parent-only sessions for coaching and family-systems work. Thrivion offers evidence-based child therapy in Omaha. Our evidence-based approach matches the configuration to what the work needs.

INSURANCE & COST
In-network — and honest about what therapy costs.
What’s between you and feeling better shouldn’t be a fee schedule. We’re in-network with the major Nebraska plans, including Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, plus Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, and Medicaid. For plans we don’t panel directly, we bill out-of-network benefits on your behalf.
Blue Cross Blue Shield

Molina Healthcare
In-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Nebraska Total Care, Molina, and Medicaid — additional plans accepted.
$0–$50 typical
Most in-network clients pay a copay between $0 and $50 per session. Intake verifies your exact cost before your first session — no surprises after.
Sliding-scale available
For clients without insurance or with high deductibles, a limited sliding-scale rate is available. Ask intake when you call — we figure it out together, no judgment.
No package upgrades
We don’t sell session packages, premium tiers, or wellness add-ons. The fee is the fee. When the work is done, the work is done.
YOUR CLINICAL TEAM
A coordinated team of master’s-level clinicians.
Five master’s-level clinicians, with child and family training. Intake matches you to the clinician whose work fits your kid’s specific shape — school anxiety looks different from grief, which looks different from sibling conflict.
Master’s-level LIMHP and LMHP clinicians, family-systems lens, and a coordinated team — not a roster of independent contractors. Intake matches you to the clinician whose training fits what you’re working on. When needs shift, the team coordinates the hand-off internally so you’re not starting over with a stranger.

FAQ
A few things parents ask before starting child therapy.
How young is too young?
Our child therapists work with kids ages 6–12. For younger kids (under 5), we refer to early-childhood specialists in our network. For teens (13+), see teen therapy.
Will I be in sessions with my kid?
Sometimes — depends on the work. Most child therapy involves kid-only sessions, parent-and-kid together when useful, and parent-only sessions for coaching. We’ll recommend a configuration based on what’s happening.
How long does child therapy take?
Most kids see meaningful change within 12–20 sessions. Longer-arc work (trauma, complicated family transitions) often runs 6–12 months. Your clinician gives you a sense after the first session or two.
Do you do medication for kids?
No. Thrivion is a talk-therapy practice. All clinicians are master’s-level LIMHP or LMHP, not prescribers. When medication is part of your kid’s plan, we coordinate with their pediatrician or prescriber.
Will my insurance cover child therapy?
We’re in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare, and Medicaid. Most clients pay $0–$50 per session.
In-person or telehealth?
For younger kids, in-person is often more effective — play therapy works better in person. Older school-age kids can do well with telehealth.
