DO YOU RECOGNIZE YOURSELF?
What autistic adulthood actually looks like.
Autism counseling — also called autism therapy, ASD therapy, neurodivergent therapy, or autistic adult therapy — rarely starts at official diagnosis. It often starts with autistic burnout, sensory regulation needs, late-diagnosed autism, or autism counseling Omaha searches by adults realizing the wiring has a name. Adult autism support work addresses the lived reality. Below are patterns clients have brought us in the first 15 minutes.
Exhausted after social events that “should” have been easy
A two-hour gathering takes three days to recover from. The recovery isn’t laziness; it’s the cost of the masking. Autistic-burnout protocols address the depletion specifically — not as introversion, as real burnout.
Sensory overload from environments others find normal
Fluorescent lights, open offices, mall acoustics, the smell of someone’s perfume. The world is louder for your nervous system. Somatic regulation pairs with environmental advocacy work — tools and accommodations together.
Masking that’s become its own job
The mask got so good you’re not sure where it ends and you begin. The maintenance cost is invisible to everyone except your body. IFS works the part that built the mask; identity work addresses what’s underneath.
Late-diagnosed or self-identified, re-reading your life
You found the word at 32, 38, 47, 56. Now everything looks different in retrospect. Narrative therapy holds the grief and the relief together; identity work moves at your pace, not the culture’s.
Burnout cycles that don’t respond to ordinary recovery
You took the vacation. Slept ten hours. Cancelled the social plans. Still depleted. Autistic burnout is its own animal — we treat the specific pattern, not generic burnout protocols.
WHAT WE WORK ON
Autistic adulthood has its own work.
Autism counseling at Thrivion addresses autistic burnout, sensory regulation needs, social exhaustion, masking fatigue, late-diagnosis identity work, and the day-to-day demands neurotypical environments place on autistic nervous systems. We don’t do ABA. We don’t do compliance training. We do affirming therapy.
Autistic Burnout
The cycle of masking, demand, and depletion that hits autistic adults differently than allistic burnout. Recovery without going neurotypical.
Sensory Overload
Bodies that take in more than the environment expected. Somatic work plus environmental and lifestyle adaptation.
Social Exhaustion
When social events that “should” be easy aren’t. Tools for capacity, recovery, and honest energy budgeting.
Masking Fatigue
When the mask has become its own job. IFS for the parts the masking has protected and the parts it’s cost.
Late-Diagnosed Identity
Re-reading your whole life with new framing. Grief, relief, and identity work all at once.
Autistic in Relationships
Working partnership, family, or friendship patterns through autistic communication style and needs.
You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve care. You don’t need a label to deserve growth.
Autism counseling at Thrivion is neurodivergent-affirming throughout. CBT adapted for autistic cognition — literal, specific, with explicit reasoning. IFS for the parts shaped by years of masking, the protector parts, the wounded parts. Somatic work for the sensory layer (the body that’s been overloaded but blamed for it). Mindfulness adapted for autistic sensory processing.
And underneath it — a family-systems lens. Autistic adults almost always live in family systems that include neurotypical and neurodivergent members, and the patterns at home matter. Thrivion offers evidence-based autism counseling in Omaha. We focus on adult autism support; for child autism work, we refer to the sister practice that does that specifically. Our evidence-based approach stays affirming.
WHO WE WORK WITH
Autistic adults and the people working alongside them.
Autism counseling at Thrivion serves autistic adults across the age spectrum, late-diagnosed adults working through identity reorientation in individual therapy, and parents of autistic kids navigating their own work alongside the child’s in family therapy. We do not provide pediatric autism behavioral work.
Autistic adults
Long-known or recently realized. Affirming work that doesn’t ask you to perform neurotypicality.
Late-diagnosed adults
The reorientation phase — identity, grief, relief, recalibration. Held with care.
Parents of autistic kids
Your work alongside your kid’s. We do not provide pediatric autism behavioral therapy — that’s a different lane.
Autistic adults in partnership
Communication, sensory, and needs work for autistic adults navigating partnership. Solo or paired with couples therapy.
Adults in autistic burnout
Specific autistic burnout recovery work — different than allistic burnout. Both layers held.
Adults with co-occurring AuDHD
When autism and ADHD co-occur. Affirming work that addresses both wiring profiles.

INSURANCE & COST
In-network — and honest about what therapy costs.
What’s between you and feeling better shouldn’t be a fee schedule. We’re in-network with the major Nebraska plans, including Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, plus Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, and Medicaid. For plans we don’t panel directly, we bill out-of-network benefits on your behalf.

Molina Healthcare
In-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Nebraska Total Care, Molina, and Medicaid — additional plans accepted.
$0–$50 typical
Most in-network clients pay a copay between $0 and $50 per session. Intake verifies your exact cost before your first session — no surprises after.
Sliding-scale available
For clients without insurance or with high deductibles, a limited sliding-scale rate is available. Ask intake when you call — we figure it out together, no judgment.
No package upgrades
We don’t sell session packages, premium tiers, or wellness add-ons. The fee is the fee. When the work is done, the work is done.
YOUR CLINICAL TEAM
A coordinated team of master’s-level clinicians.
Five master’s-level clinicians, with neurodivergent-affirming training. Intake matches you to the clinician whose work fits your specific shape — autistic adult therapy looks different from late-diagnosed identity work.
Master’s-level LIMHP and LMHP clinicians, family-systems lens, and a coordinated team — not a roster of independent contractors. Intake matches you to the clinician whose training fits what you’re working on. When needs shift, the team coordinates the hand-off internally so you’re not starting over with a stranger.

What clients say.
My clinician didn’t ask me to be less literal. She worked with how I actually process. That alone changed therapy.
— A Thrivion client
I’d been in therapy for years without telling anyone I was autistic. The first place I could be openly autistic was here.
— A Thrivion client
Late-diagnosed at 38. The identity work was hard and good. My clinician held it without rushing.

FAQ
A few things adults ask before starting autism counseling.
Do I need a formal autism diagnosis to start?
No. Self-identification is sufficient. Many of our autistic clients are self-identified or recently diagnosed. We work with what you’re bringing.
Do you do ABA?
No. Thrivion does not provide Applied Behavior Analysis. Our autism counseling is neurodivergent-affirming — we work alongside autistic wiring, not to compliance-train it. For ABA, we refer to specialists in that lane.
Do you do autism evaluations or testing?
No. Thrivion is a talk-therapy practice. We don’t do diagnostic evaluations. We provide therapy after diagnosis — or for self-identified adults working through identity, burnout, and sensory needs.
How long does autism counseling take?
Most clients work for 6–12 months on a specific focus (burnout, identity, relational). Ongoing support is available for those who want a long-arc neurodivergent-affirming therapist.
Will my insurance cover autism counseling?
We’re in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare, and Medicaid. Coverage depends on diagnosis code; intake walks you through specifics. Most clients pay $0–$50 per session.
In-person or telehealth?
Many autistic adults prefer telehealth for the lower sensory load. In-person is available; you choose what fits your nervous system.
